Official ANDSA prices for cars (HS heading 8703). There is no annual vignette for cars: 'over 180 days' costs €180 for each further 180-day period.
📋 How it works
Moldova works the opposite way round from most of the region: the vignette is the charge for cars registered abroad. Locals pay differently. If your car is on foreign plates you need it from the moment you enter — on entry and on plain transit alike.
⚠️ Without a vignette
Fine for an unpaid vignette — MDL 2 250 – 9 000 (45–180 conventional units, art. 287³ of the Contravention Code no. 218/2008). Paying the fine does not release you from paying the vignette for the whole period of stay.
What it is tied to
To your registration plate. You need it when you buy, plus the country of registration, the vehicle category and the owner's details. A car with a trailer and a car without are different categories. The plate field accepts Latin letters and digits only — no dashes, hyphens or spaces between characters, and no Cyrillic letters. Operator FAQ, read 2 October 2026.
Validity starts at 00:00 on the day you choose, or from the hour of issue if you buy it on the day you enter. It ends at 24:00 on the last day.
For how long
For a passenger car the operator's own list offers 7, 15, 30, 90 and 180 days, plus an "over 180 days" option. According to the operator's FAQ, the first entry of a car is covered by the 180-day option at most, and for each following consecutive or incomplete 180-day period you choose "over 180 days".
There is no one-day vignette for a car. A one-day option does exist on the portal, but for other vehicle classes — buses and goods vehicles — not for cars. Read on the operator's tariff list, 2 October 2026.
Where to buy it
Online, and it works. The official portals are vinieta.gov.md and evinieta.gov.md, run by the national road administration under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, and the site has an English version. You fill in the vehicle type, the activation date, the period and the plate, then pay and download the confirmation. Checked 2 October 2026.
One practical detail from the operator: avoid paying online between 23:45 and 00:01. The payment can be blocked, the vignette is then not valid, and the money is returned to the card.
At the border too. According to the operator, bank self-service terminals are present at every border crossing, and terminals of several payment companies at most of them, as well as at filling stations and shopping centres. Operator FAQ, read 2 October 2026.
Keep the payment confirmation. If the system fails to record something, that receipt is the only evidence you have. The operator's advice is to check the plate, the vehicle category and the validity on the receipt when you buy.
Documents: you need a Green Card
Moldova is part of the Green Card system but not part of the Multilateral Agreement — so an EU registration plate on its own is not enough here, unlike in Serbia or Montenegro, which are on the Council of Bureaux list of countries applying that agreement. Arrange a Green Card with "MD" not crossed out with your own insurer before you leave. Do not assume you can buy a policy at the crossing: we could not confirm border insurance sales in any official source, and the offers that surface in a search come from intermediaries.
